Counselling is a form of talk therapy used to explore feelings or situations that may be causing physical, emotional or spiritual discomfort. We often receive counsel from many people in our lives; friends, family, colleagues, loved ones. However, there are times when you may not feel comfortable talking to those people, or would like a professional, objective point of view. Counselling is a safe, confidential and judgement free space for you to do that with a qualified therapist.
How does it work?
Sessions are structured based on your needs and what would you like to accomplish. Contrary to popular thought, a counsellor's role is not to tell you what to do; in fact, you work together collaboratively to identify the root cause of an issue and seek out solutions. This process is often accomplished over multiple sessions. Counselling helps to develop a greater understanding of self--how you think, act and relate to others. These skills create a strong foundation for managing all of life's ups and downs, naturally.
how is nhc different?
We incorporate mindfulness techniques and teachings from Eastern philosophy into our sessions. We believe that when you change your approach from a place of suffering and avoidance to a place of curiosity and compassion, your discomfort or dis-ease can be a powerful teacher and healing tool.
